Even though I am only a 6th grader, I have always felt that I can help make a positive difference in another person's life but I just didn't know how to go about it. Then, I saw this note posted on the bulletin board at my school claiming that I could mentor a younger student in an area that I felt that I could be of benefit. This one area happened to be soccer.
The ad on the buletin board said that I can do exactly what I want to be doing, when I want to be doing it, under my own terms and conditions. However, I must follow two circumstances. 1) I must abide by all six pillars of character; 2) My program must be great for everyone involved.
I then went door to door to earn enough money from my neighbors to earn the the right to be a mentor of a younger student. I raised $50.00 and received $45.00 back in the form of a grant from We, The World (WTW). After receiving the money I opened up a separate bank account because this $45.00 was to be used as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit program. Of the $45.00 I was allowed to keep $4.50 for myself, and the balance of $40.50 was to be used for my protege (mentee).
After that, I proceeded to place my own ad on the buletin board showing that I would mentor a 5th grader in soccer on Thursday afternoons after school from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
The first thing I did was buy a brand new soccer ball along with a PIF journal, book on soccer, accomplishment ribbons and certificates, etc. I even had money left over for a pizza party to celebrate my mentee's accomplishments.

Dear Friends,
Just recently, I became a Pass It Forward (PIF) Host (mentor). PIF helped me create my own program called Evelyn’s Acts of Kindness Program which you can now access on my free web page www.aunitedworld.org/evelyn.asp.
The beauty of this type of volunteer work is that it has many benefits. First, I am volunteering my time and doing exactly what I want to be doing, when I want to be doing it. Two, I am receiving immediate gratification from my friends which really makes me feel good. Three, I now have my own personal mentor that is always there to help me accomplish my goals and get what I want. Furthermore, my mentor helps connect me to other like minded people that also want to make a difference under their own terms and conditions.

How it works: Simply fill out a Scan It & Pass It Forward application form with both your information and your Charity’s information. A Pass It Forward tag for your keychain will then be created with your Charity’s information imbedded on the tag that participating merchants can then easily scan.
Each time you make a purchase at a store, restaurant, or any merchant that is also participating in Scan It & Pass It Forward Program, you will ask them to scan your tag. Anything from a penny on up, depending on the merchant, will automatically be donated to your charity.
This is easy, painless, and a great way to generate much-needed funds for charities that you personally have chosen.
Pass It Forward Movement, the business scans their Pass It Forward tag, and your favorite nonprofit receives money.
